Stupid Conversation on a Train #28playslater #day7
the challenge today was to write a bad play - everything below the people sitting across from me on the train said to each other - but it comes across as universal and has a good kind of strangeness so I'm not sure if I met the challenge.
STUPID CONVERSATION ON THE TRAIN
(transcribed by Rachel Mariner)
The 5:15 to London Two middle-aged co-workers are sitting together.
VALERIE
There just isn’t traction for gettings ready which seems to be
RITA
Yes and unfortunately the marketing was backfooted by the resellers.
VALERIE
With my colleagues in the marketing department it’s very hard.
RITA
It has to be a very very simple thing where they just have to press a button.
VALERIE
We could get agencies to do it.
RITA
Or consultants...
VALERIE
But we don’t have the resources. Does your team have the resources?
RITA
Last week I was in Europe and had meetings on weekly bases and I could keep them very contained and motivated. But there are so many different markets. I don’t think people really know - I mean you know -
VALERIE
Yeah
RITA
But I don’t think people have a good understanding.
VALERIE
We’re mapping the resources actually.
RITA
Oh, you’re doing that.
VALERIE
Well we’re not doing the whole world.
RITA
I think we’ll have a very heterogenous situation. I think it’s quite difficult to prepare a plan if you don’t know what the project is about.
VALERIE
Yes. Sometimes we are asked to prepare a plan and there is one person doing it all.
RITA
It’s not that it’s not doable but you need a centralized model and you have to know what you’re dealing with.
VALERIE
Well yes, this is the diagnosis, and another toolkit for each archetype.
RITA
If we have to have meetings in the markets and put some content into surgeries and that kind of thing it will take however much we do it will take some energy to do. Unless we get an agency to help.
VALERIE
Yeah.
RITA
It’s doable. We’re a large organization.
VALERIE
Yeah yeah yeah yeah. Sometimes it is used as a convenient excuse. Oh actually no.
RITA
I am a can do type of person.
VALERIE
Ha ha ha ha ha
RITA
My husband looks at that in a really negative way. I don’t know if it is necessarily always good. But we’re not resource limited
VALERIE
No. No. No no no no no.
RITA
With the right people.
VALERIE
Yes.
They trail off into silence.
